The History of the Gothberg Ranch
The best way to learn about the history of the Historic Gothberg Ranch is to order the book by Jefferson Glass, Empire: The Pioneer Legacy of an American Ranch Family.
The Gothberg Ranch was founded in the 1890's by Martin Gothberg, the son of a German immigrant. The ranch was initially a 160-acre homestead in 1885 but grew over time to tens of thousands of acres of deeded land.
Gothberg later owned a Buick dealership and became a real estate speculater in downtown Casper, Wyoming. He also owned a house near 10th and Wolcott. The Gothberg family owned and operated the ranch until the late 1950's or early 1960's. From there the ranch was partially subdivided and went through a series of owners until it eventually fell into disrepair.
The current owners Roy and Susie Haines acquired the ranch in 1999 when they purchased the ranch with the goal of restoring it and preserving its history.
The restoration was all privately funded and is ongoing.
